Carleton Rode History Group has published the first book in a series that together will tell the history of Carleton Rode, its people, places and everyday life. We would love any information - and especially photographs - about flax growing, the workhouse, wells, mills, the shutter telegraph and anything else that you think might be useful. You may have documents or artefacts - even something you might have dug up in the garden! Everything will help round out the picture, whether or not it makes it into the final draft.

****************************

Carleton Rode History Group holds regular meetings in the village hall which have included speakers on subjects as varied as the history of footpaths, pargetting, round towered churches and the story of the redoubtable Basil Brown – featured in the film 'The Dig' where he was portrayed by the fabulous Ralph Fiennes.

Inspiring Souls

This project was undertaken as part of the First World War centenary commemorations. Using the vast amount of material gathered by Simon and Penny, as they initially researched the men recorded on the War Memorial and then expanded out to other Carleton Rodeans who served in the First World War,  a QR coded trail was created through the village and an archive of online information about those men and their families. A fantastic insight into the impact of WW1 on a rural community.
